Re: EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

Hi Jordan,

Thanks a lot for looking into this. I agree with you that this issue is machine specific. Yes, I will reach out to an engineer with the Cray machine for help.

Thank you again.

Re: EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

Hi Jordan,

I am wondering if you have had a chance to take a look at the configure.wrf, namelist.input and runtime info files that I posted last time. I tried but I did not solve the problem.

Thanks,
Yongxin

Re: EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

Hi Jordan, No, I haven't figured out the reason for this problem yet. Attached please find my configure.wrf (for Version 3.9.1), namelist.input, rsl.error.0000 and rsl.out.0000 files. Please let me know if you need other files as well. My opt_pars_out has been set to 1. I have also compiled and run ...

Re: EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

Hi Jordan, I did not use the same configure.wrf file on NCAR's SGI machine and the Cray machine since the compilers are different. This is a pretty weird thing. I am thinking that maybe there is an if statement or switch that tells the model not to update those variables starting from hour 2. I will...

Re: EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

Hi Jordan, Thank you very much for your reply. In the 8th column for EXTCOF55 it is a "h" and for TAUAERs it is "rh". If there were no "h", then the TAUAER variables would not have been included in the wrfout files. Those variables are output in my wrfout files except that their values don't change ...

EXTCOF55 and TAUAER1, ..., TAUAER4 are not updated in hourly wrfout files

I posted a similar topic under "Running" but I did not get any response and recently I tried with the latest version of V4.1.5 and still got the same problem so I think that there may be a bug in the WRF-Chem code. Basically, I am running WRF-Chem V3.9.1 and V4.1.5 on a Cray machine for a Middle Eas...

Where and how to download the latest version of WRF-Chem

Sorry if this question has been raised previously in this forum although I did not find one relevant post. I tried to download the latest version of WRF-Chem but whenever I issued the command "git clone https://github.com/wrf-model/WRF-Chem" I was always asked to type in my Username for 'https://git...

TAUAER1-4 are not updated

I am running WRF-Chem V3.9.1 on a Cray machine for a Middle East domain and my chem_opt = 300. The model runs but I have noticed that the optical depth variables, TAUAER1, TAUAER2, TAUAER3, TAUAER4 in the hourly wrfout files do not change after the second hour (i.e., they are always the second-hour ...

Questions on using the ECMWF IFS forecast data with WPS

Sorry to bother you again about using the ECMWF IFS (Integrated Forecasting System) data with WPS. These data are downloaded in near real time by our collaborators in Saudi Arabia on their machine. Thanks to the help I got from WRFHelp and this forum, I was able to run WPS/WRF using the ECMWF IFS da...

Re: Problems with using ECMWF IFS operational products to drive WPS/WRF

Thank you so much for these suggestions. I checked every one of the files and indeed the following files are problematic: 1. ec.oper.an.sfc.???_???_ci.regn1280sc.????????.grb 2. ec.oper.an.sfc.???_???_sstk.regn1280sc.????????.grb 3. ec.oper.an.sfc.???_???_sd.regn1280sc.????????.grb 4. ec.oper.an.sfc...

Re: Problems with using ECMWF IFS operational products to drive WPS/WRF

Thank you so much for your willingness to help! Attached please find "namelist.wps", "ungrib.log", and two input grib data surface files (I had to change the names from .grb to .txt since otherwise the files won't be attached here. The pressure level files are too large to be attached here. They are...

Re: Problems with using ECMWF IFS operational products to drive WPS/WRF

Sorry to bother you again but somehow my ungrib job did not complete successfully. All of the PFILEs were generated but then the job was stopped complaining "forrtl: severe (174): SIGSEGV, segmentation fault occurred" and the error message was: End-of-record mark (7777) not found 0 Sec0(1) = 2621450...

Re: Problems with using ECMWF IFS operational products to drive WPS/WRF

Thank you so much for the suggestion! The magical line, ec_rec_len = 26214508 in namelist.wps under &ungrib, indeed worked for me with version 4.1.2 though not with version 3.9.1 (for version 3.9.1, it complained about "invalid reference to variable in NAMELIST input" for that line). If there is a w...

(RESOLVED) Problems with using ECMWF IFS operational products to drive WPS/WRF

I've been trying to using the ECMWF IFS high-resolution operational products to drive WPS/WRF but somehow WPS won't be able to read the data files. I am using the data files located under /glade/collections/rda/data/ds113.1/ec.oper.an.sfc/ and /glade/collections/rda/data/ds113.1/ec.oper.an.pl/ on Ch...

Hi Ming,

Many thanks for asking around. I found one tool from ECMWF that does that so we are good with that.

Thanks again,

Re: Issues with ingesting a high-resolution EROD dataset in geogrid file

Using a single node with less tasks has solved the problem of not reading the new EROD data. Now my geogrid file has been ingested with the high-resolution EROD dataset. Thank you so much for helping me fix this issue!

Re: Issues with ingesting a high-resolution EROD dataset in geogrid file

Thank you very much for all of the suggestions. I made all the changes including setting "geog_data_res = 'default+modis_30s+30s'" in my namelist.wps file and setting "optional = yes" in my GEOGRID.TBL file but geogrid.exe still stops when processing EROD. In one of the tries, the following error me...

Re: Issues with ingesting a high-resolution EROD dataset in geogrid file

Hi Karl, Thank you very much for your help with this. I attached the following files to this post: 1) full namelist.wps file 2) full index file 3) modified GEOGRID.TBL file (now the EROD part is modified) 4) full geogrid.log.0000 file (I used select=2:ncpus=36:mpiprocs=36 so there are 72 geogrid.log...

Re: How to run ungrib.exe on grib files with mixed grib1 and grib2 data

Hi Ming,

Thanks a lot. I am wondering if you or anyone know a tool or software that can be used to separate the grib1 and grib2 variables from the grib files.

(RESOLVED) How to run ungrib.exe on grib files with mixed grib1 and grib2 data

I have been trying to run ungrib.exe (of WPS version 3.9.1) on grib files that may contain both grib1 data and grib2 data and I always get the following error messages in the ungrib.log file: *** stopping in gribcode ***\n \tI was expecting a Grib1 file, but this is a Grib2 file. \tIt is possible th...

Issues with ingesting a high-resolution EROD dataset in geogrid file

I am trying to use a high resolution EROD dataset at ~500 m resolution in a WRF domain at 9 km resolution but somehow my WPS version 3.9.1.1 stops every time when it processes the EROD dataset without producing any useful error messages. My "index" file is as follows: type=continuous signed = no pro...

My wrf.exe stops quickly on a Cray XC40 machine

I successfully built WRF-Chem V3.9.1.1 on a Cray XC40 machine and WPS and real.exe ran fine for 2 domains but every time I ran wrf.exe my runs always stopped quickly after reading in the emissions files and processing the lateral boundary conditions. The end part of the rsl.error.0000 file is shown ...

Re: Always run into this "sys-2 : UNRECOVERABLE error on system request" error

Thank you both so much for looking into this problem. I was indeed running ungrib.exe in parallel by setting ntasks=32 and after I changed that to ntasks=1 my ungrib.exe ran through without any problems. Also, when I was running ungrib.exe in parallel, my metgrid.exe was deleted from the run directo...
