Re: Irrigation schemes in v4.3

Dear Ming, Thank you, but do those two serve the same purporse in the model? The first implemented scheme basically increases soil moisture in the irrigated affected areas, but does NOAH-MP implementation do the same thing or something completely different? If it does the same, then they will be red...

Irrigation schemes in v4.3

Dear WRF community, I'm looking into implementing irrigation schemes into simulation. From v4.2 there was already an irrigation scheme ( sf_surf_irr_scheme namelist entry). However, in v4.3, NOAH-MP LSM, a new dynamic irrigation scheme is also implemented ( opt_irr ). My question is: Are these two r...

Anyway, I understand that if you are doing so, there is no way to get the information as to when you run with dmpar.
I don't know that part. Maybe folks from wrfhelp will have better answer.

Re: WRF execution information

Hello I will not answer directly but what I do; I count number of wrfout files written to disk and divide elapsed time from model start with that number. That way I know how much time wrf takes to integrate one output step. Then I use target number of wrfout files - written number of wrfout files = ...

Re: Invalid communicator

Hello,

PMPI_Bcast(1541): Invalid communicator error might be caused by incomplete network configuration. Take a look at your /etc/hosts file, you might miss a line like:

<ipaddress> <hostname.domain> <hostname>

If I remmeber correctly, ommiting that could cause PMPI_Bcast error.

Re: wrf.exe keeps running with no progress.

Hello, I experienced that with v3.9 in some installations. It was dependent on geographic location. For example, the completely same setup run was randomly stopping on only one area, where 2 exact the same domains for different area ran fine all the time. Now, although that might indicate that somet...

&stoch skebs = 0, tot_backscat_t = 1e-06, perturb_bdy = 0, nens = 01, / for example, if I have two domain, should I specify both? Why sometimes it is one, sometimes requires two? This would cause a lot of confusion and the output errors are really misleading. Hi, when you look into user's guide, ch...

Re: RRTMG-K SW scheme same results as FLG SW scheme

Oh, thank you very much for precise explanation. I absolutelly agree that software check for that would be good idea, but a quick note in User's Guide should be good enough :) I would never thought that for RRTMG-K both sw and lw should be the same, because I think that I saw that for example ra_lw_...

Hello, I got further in investigation. No increase in temperature in domain during day, it seems that SW radiation is =0 everywhere. ...

RRTMG-K SW scheme same results as FLG SW scheme

Hello, I know this is very strange topic. But here it is what I see. Hello, few idas, you can implement them all at once: 1) increase epssm = 0.2, to epssm = 1.0 2) use smooth_cg_topo = true in &domains 3) w_damping = 0, to w_damping = 1, 4) damp_opt = 0, to damp_opt = 3, 5) e_vert = 30, might be bit too low Also, try to find out if you get CFL violations or somethin...

Re: nwp_diagnostics variables freezed frames

You can't use adaptive time stepping with nwp_diagnostics. Hello, thank you for information, I guessed that might be the case, because it looks like registers are not emptied sometimes at full hour mark (for example if because of adaptive time step exact time of full hour is not reached. However, I...

If it works for you, then probably, it was some compilation problem on my side. If you still insist I will attach those files...

nwp_diagnostics variables freezed frames

Hello. I have a problem that looks like code bug. I'm using nwp_diagnostics = 1 in order to get max hourly diagnostic fields. Re: runtime error with Intel compiler - OK with GNU

Alain,

OK then mpi is out of suspect so I don't have further ideas. You might want to go with completely clean compilation environment, for example build everything in new system user directory tree, all compile-time dependencies and then wrf, from scratch.

Re: runtime error with Intel compiler - OK with GNU

Alain, Vmware should not be reason for WRF not to work. But, I got an idea when you mentioned that. You are using mpich, is that correct? How do you start wrf.exe? Something like "mpirun -n 6 ./wrf.exe" ? If that's correct, can you try, for test, running wrf without mpich? Just "./wrf.exe" please? I...

Hello,

Please try these changes in your index file:

known_y = 11865
endian = little
row_order = top_bottom

Or, depending on how your data is organized within binary file, different combinations of those. Something there is most probably cause of why you're not getting topography in domain.

Xun, No guarantees it will do anything, but you can try to remove -fp-model fast=1, -no-prec-div and -no-prec-sqrt from FCBASEOPTS_NO_G line (configure.wrf) and instead of those add -fp-model=precise or even -fp-model=strict. Keep in mind that this might come with some performance penalty though. Pl...

Re: WRFV4.0.1 model crash with YSU and MYNN PBL options

Hello, I would like to add my findings on the topic here. As OP said, he suspected particular physics schemes in v4.0 to cause crash. But it is most probably nothing about schemes, but simple CFL violation. I got same issue after upgrading from v3.9.1.1 to V4.0.3 and v4.1. In my setup, I experienced...
