Availability of WRF-4.3 in AWS AMIs

Hello everyone, We just wanted to announce that any AWS user (with a Marketplace subscription) will be able to launch WRF-4.3 using preconfigured AMIs starting this week. These AMIs come in 2 flavors: Intel x86_64 (https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-4axaf4xxxa6te) and arm64 (https://aws....

Re: error: This option is not recognized: _real

Hi Jordan,
I restarted the whole thing from scratch earlier and the compilations (for both KPP0 & KPP1) went through. Obviously I was doing something wrong on Wednesday, it's the problem with multitasking too many things. Thanks for the help.

Re: Coordinates for benchmark_large

Hi, I'm mainly using IDV for postprocessing and the metadata (tab) also provides those details (what was I thinking?). Regarding the benchmarks, I'm a bit confused. The link is taken from the BAMS article preprint so I guess that these are the new preferred benchmarks (better running a few hours tha...

error: This option is not recognized: _real

Hello,
I'm still getting the error

Code: Select all

This option is not recognized: _real
even after using the file at https://ruc.noaa.gov/wrf/wrf-chem/known-prob.htm. It happens for either KPP0 (single line output error) or Kpp1. The system is running CentOS 8.3 with GNU 11.1.0. Thanks.

Coordinates for benchmark_large

Hello,
I downloaded the file from https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/src/bench ... rge.tar.gz. As it doesn't have the 'wps' file, I was wondering if the coordinates are available (here my assumption is that it uses a Lambert projection). Thanks.

Re: A ready-made machine image on AWS

Hello Aviv,
Not sure if you are still interested in AWS AMIs but we have recently listed one for Intel and another for Graviton2 (arm) in the Marketplace. The latter is pending aproval but both contain the latest stable WRF version (4.2.2) ready to go.
Best,
The odyhpc team

Question about geographical data

Hello, I'm trying to run the summer 2010 test case and NAM. Let me begin with the first one that is producing the error (when running geogrid): ERROR: Could not open /home/centos/WRF-4.2.2/WPS_GEOG/soiltype_top_2m/index I'm using the same WPS geographical data as for the JAN00 case. Re: About roles and ranks

I did a last attempt to run in 2 nodes rather than in 1. Although it didn't crash (no error message), the app never engaged the GPUs and, as far as I can tell, didn't advance even though it ran for a while. It's probably better to wait until v7 is ready and perform a full testing then.

Re: About roles and ranks

Thanks. Maybe I didn't interpret/understand the instructions correctly (some doubts crept up at the time). Just for clarification, I tried to run 2 MPI ranks and my system is very different from Summit. I was testing on a single node with 4 CPUs and 2 GPUs. I have 3 qs: 1) Would my configuration (si...

OpenACC directives at mpas_dmpar.F

Hello, While trying to compile the app with OpenACC, I've noticed some issues. More specifically, the mpas_dmpar.F code makes the following call: 6475 | !$acc data present(tempRbuffer, array, compactHaloInfo, dimsizes, nHaloLayers, gpu_nList_send, gpu_idx_send, gpu_bufferOffset_send) async(counter+1...

About roles and ranks

Hello, I just compiled the app and have started troubleshooting a few things. My first question is a simple one. When I use 1 rank, the message reads: My role is 3 Role leader is 0 A bit odd but it creates the log file with 'role03' inserted into the file name. It never uses the GPU and eventually c...

Re: NWSC-3 benchmark timing results

Yours are similar to my first thoughts but there's more to it. As you mention, Cheyenne doesn't have accelerators so did they use some other HW or just estimated assuming some ratio? However, my foremost concern is with the full nodes results, which are supposed to be w/o accelerators. The last resu...

Re: NWSC-3 benchmark timing results

Sorry for the delay. The link is https://www2.cisl.ucar.edu/resources/nwsc-3 and is filed under UCAR_RFP000074. My initial assumption was that someone in your team performed the benchmarks but this seems to not be the case; hence, I don't know who actually did it.

Re: Problems with the wrfio_nf library on CentOS 8.1

Hi @Ming Chen,
The key is to tell cmake to create the subdirectory lib rather than lib64 when building netcdf. WRF doesn't seem to build correctly if the netcdf libraries are at lib64 even after modifying the configuration file. Thanks.

Re: Problems with the wrfio_nf library on CentOS 8.1

Hi @ Ming Chen , I'm familiar with that webpage. However, the issue is with the library that WRF is generating during its own compilation (wrfio_nf). I mentioned the modification in order to link with the library (netcdf) built by the user. Without it, the compilation just stops claiming that it can...

Problems with the wrfio_nf library on CentOS 8.1

Hello, I'm trying to compile the app (v4.1) on CentOS 8.1. Initially the command ld was unable to find the netcdf library (on CentOS 8, netcdf creates its libraries at /opt/netcdf/lib64 rather than at /opt/netcdf/lib) so I modified configure.wrf (line 222). However, the compilation still seems unabl...

Re: WRF compilation not finding modules

Hi @ kwerner , As usually, I forgot to write the output to a file. It's now attached. It might be that WRF detects that there are two sets of GNU compilers (the one with the OS plus GNUv9.3.0 installed at /opt), and this causes the installation of module_dm.mod to fail. Unless you have any suggestio...

WRF compilation not finding modules

Hello,
I'm trying to compile WRF with the GNU compilers (v9.3.0) to check any potential improvements vs. GNUv7. However, and unlike for the latter, the compilation cannot find some modules (e.g. module_dm.mod). I'm unsure why of the differences for compilers of the same family.
Thanks
