Little R Example files?

Hi all, I posted a question in the obsproc forum, but it is quite void of any recent replies to anything. So I'll try here (sorry). Wondering if there are any example text files of little-r formatted data to debug an issue my WRFDA program is experiencing. I'm testing error propagation in the model ...

Re: How to calculate moist Brunt-Vaisala frequency?

You need to calculate equivalent potential temperature. It appears NCL does this and can be acquired via calling for "eth" in the get_var function. This requires knowing the temperature of the lifted condensation level for which there are several empirical methods to do so. A better approach would b...

Observations out of domain

Hi all, I am trying to assimilate pseudo airrep obs into WRFDA to cycle with previous WRF output. I have the domain set up just as my initial model run in both the namelist.input.3dvar and namelist.obsproc.3dvar files, and the obs I created reflect that. I also set up the time window to include the ...

Re: No .exe files produced compiling WRF

skew_t_pie, were you able to resolve this issue? Looking at your log.compile, I recognize the errors. I ran into something very similar and was able to resolve it. The specific error was that the Apple LLVM distribution of cpp is unable to correctly parse the macros in module_mp_fast_sbm.F. That ke...

Re: No .exe files produced compiling WRF

We know that the clang-1000.10.44.4 has trouble to compile WRF. Is it possible to install gfortran/gcc and try again? For whatever reason, I have successfully updated the default gfortran to 9.3.0 and not clang using homebrew; however I can't do the same with gcc and systems integrity protection wo...

Re: No .exe files produced compiling WRF

This might be related to the version of your compiler. Which version of gcc you used? [brians-mbp:~/WRF_home/WRF/main] bjh% gcc --version Configured with: --prefix=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr --with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/include/c++/4.2.1 Apple LLVM version 10.0.0 (clang-1000.10.44.4) Ta...

Re: NetCDF as input

If the data is in netCDF format, you definitely can skip running ungrib. Instead, you can read the netCDF data directly, write it to intermediate files, and then run metered.exe. The format of intermediate file can be found in https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/docs/user_guide_v4/v4.0/users_guide_...

No .exe files produced compiling WRF

I am installing WRF (v 4.2.1) on a Mac OsX running High Sierra (Darwin Arch Linux) on a 4-core Intel processor (i7 2.9 GHz). I have installed the libraries including separately building NetCDF-C (4.7.4) and NetCDF-Fortran (4.5.2) and set the appropriate paths/environmental variables as per the (slig...

Re: “Error: Data not found” error msg for GFS 1.0

Sorry as I am still learning WRF, but aside from more detailed simulations or running a forecast to compare with older forecasts for error (say replicating Hurricane Katrina and running the simulation to compare with initial forecast data), you can't run a simulation past a certain date? In other wo...

Re: Configuring WRF and processor/compiler options

This is just arm waving (does that pun count)? If you are given several options in the configure step, go ahead and choose one of the Intel or GNU options. If you would like some assistance with choosing options, just grab the screenful of options form the configure step and we can help steer you i...

NetCDF as input

I am reading data through MATLAB which is unpacked using their NC-Toolbox. As I understand it, the WPS takes GRIB data, re-purposes it to an intermediate format, then to NetCDF? If this is the case, can I by-pass the "ungrib.exe" process if the input data is already in NetCDF? It doesn't matter if t...

Configuring WRF and processor/compiler options

I have a question regarding compatibility of processors and/or compilers with WRF. I want to run WRF on a machine using an ARM processor (Cortex-A9 MPCore). I'm using my personal computer to install/compile WRF to get used to everything and test. I have an Intel Xeon natively, but have both ifort an...
