How are nested domains divided in distributed memory execution?

I have been reading some of the entries on UCAR website about WRF performance and scaling, but I am confused about one thing: how are nested domains divided up between processors when running WRF that was compiled with dmpar options? I see from here that the x and y dimensions to the domain are divi...

Re: Tutorial for compiling WRF with Intel compiler

It might depend a bit on the type of installation you are trying to build, but in general the steps are the same as in the tutorial you linked, except you choose your desired compiler instead of the gcc/gfortran ones listed there. Just make sure you have the correct compilers installed and added to ...

Re: Error with compiling the WRF model

For reference, looks like the first error in the cascade is this: time gfortran -o module_cu_g3.o -c -O2 -ftree-vectorize -funroll-loops -w -ffree-form -ffree-line-length-none -fconvert=big-endian -frecord-marker=4 -I../dyn_em -I../dyn_nmm -I/home/pruthvi/Build_WRF/WRFV3/external/esmf_time_f90 -I/ho...

Re: WRF Compiling problem cc

If you run `which cc` on the machine you are trying to install WRF on, what is the result you get? There's a chance you don't have a C compiler installed or loaded.

Re: ungrib v4 segmentation fault: when using 0.25 degree grib2 data for 2018

I wasn't able to get a better error message, but I was able to allocate more stack space and run ungrib again (ulimit -s unlimited). When I re-ran following this change, everything worked.

Re: ungrib v4 segmentation fault: when using 0.25 degree grib2 data for 2018

I am having the same error, as I am using the same data set and Vtable as the original post. Here is my namelist.wps and my ungrib.log.

Is there anyway to get a more descriptive error message from ungrib?

Re: Compilation fails because libnetcdf.so has undefined references to HDF5 related symbols.

Seems like posting on this forum is a good rubber duck learning process for me. On my system, there were two versions of HDF5 with very similar names. One was compiled with the Intel toolchain (opt/ohpc/pub/libs/intel/hdf5/1.10.5) , and one was built with the intel compiler toolchain and the impi MP...

Glad you got it fixed, and thanks for sharing your solution! I'm hoping to help make sure more of these forum threads don't end up unresolved.

Re: No .exe files produced compiling WRF

skew_t_pie, were you able to resolve this issue? Looking at your log.compile, I recognize the errors. I ran into something very similar and was able to resolve it. The specific error was that the Apple LLVM distribution of cpp is unable to correctly parse the macros in module_mp_fast_sbm.F. That kep...

Compilation fails because libnetcdf.so has undefined references to HDF5 related symbols.

Hello, I am working on installing WRF 4.2 on a Linux HPC. I am having trouble compiling because during the portion where diffwrf io_netcdf is being built, something is not linked correctly and I get the following error: /project/ssmith_uksr/WRF_ARW/netcdf/lib/libnetcdf.so: undefined reference to `H5...

Re: Reminder: Problems building executables WRFV4.0 (em_real)

Can you post your configure.wrf? You can usually solve this by editing the line that has LC = time $(FC) or something similar to just LC = $(FC)

Re: WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

FYI This was due to a bug in the LLVM distribution of clang cpp. I submitted a pull request for WRF to fix the spacing so this isn't an issue: https://github.com/wrf-model/WRF/pull/1221

Re: WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

More to digest here. I checked, and many of the other macros were getting correctly substituted. So why not this one? Well, in lines 655 - 673 of module_mp_fast_sbm.F, the spacing of the macro is incorrect: #if (defined(DM_PARALLEL)) DM_BCAST_MACRO_R16 ( FAF1 ) DM_BCAST_MACRO_R16 ( FBF1 ) DM_BCAST_M...

Re: WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

I should add that I am attempting to compile with the serial configuration. As best as I can tell, the compile script is taking fixed-width Fortran files and transforming them to free format Fortran and compiling them into object files via this code from configure.wrf (lines 346-357) .F.o: $(RM) $@ ...

Re: WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

Maybe I didn't really fix it the way I originally thought. I made some changes to the physics radiation modules and went to recompile, and I encountered this same error again. It is unrelated to the changes I made. So far cleaning and rebuilding has not worked. Since you asked earlier, here is my co...

Re: Unable to run NCL on my MacOSX Catalina system

Did you happen to use the Homebrew installation for ncar-ncl? I had previously tried that and gotten the dyld error that you are getting. There are new security features on MacOS since El Capitan that prevent the programs from setting the DYLD (dynamic linker) environment variables, which could expla...

Re: WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

I removed the alias from the script and made a symlink from gfortran-9 to /usr/local/bin/gfortran. After running ./clean -a, I was able to recompile successfully.

WRF compile fails because of undefined function in module_mp_fast_sbm.f90

Hello, I am trying to build WRF on my Mac (macOS Catalina v10.15.4, Intel CPU) but am having some difficulties. First thing's first, I know my environment is correct as I passed every test listed here: https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/OnLineTutorial/compilation_tutorial.php Originally I used the Homebr...
