Re: metgrid.exe Fails with - NOAA/CIRES Twentieth Century Global Reanalysis Version 2c Data

Yes, you will need terrain height (or geopotential height). If you're not able to obtain it from the data source you're using, you can use another source. You can read about how to use multiple datasets in this section of the Users Guide . It may be worth trying to contact the data group first, thou...

Re: Error compiling WRF-4.3

Hi Yvonne, I'm not expecting those commands to fix the problem - they are just to help me make sure I'm seeing a clean compile. It helps with identifying the root problem. The first error in your compile log is module_radiation_driver.f90:214:7: USE module_ra_eclipse , ONLY : solar_eclipse 1 Fatal E...

Re: I cannot compile metgrid.exe (WPS-4.3)

Hi,
The error in your compile log is very similar to the one mentioned in this post (related to netcdf and the file scan_input.F). Try to use the modified file I gave that user to see if it works for you, as well.

Re: metgrid.exe Fails with - NOAA/CIRES Twentieth Century Global Reanalysis Version 2c Data

Hi,
This error typically indicates that you're missing some mandatory surface data. Take a look at this FAQ that states the mandatory fields, and make sure you have them for the surface and soil.

Re: WRF outputs for albedo, emissivity, heat capacity, etc

Hi, All available variables are listed in the Registry/Registry.EM_COMMON file. I think (maybe) these are the variables you are looking for: SMOIS - soil moisture - this should already be output as a 3d variable CAPG - heat capacity for soil THC - thermal inertia The second two (CAPG & THC) are not ...

Re: Ungrib.exe not generated after compiling successfully metgrib and geogrid.exe

@mikeschen, Typically if you are able to build the executable, then it has been built correctly. The error message you're getting usually indicates something wrong with either the input file(s), the path to the input file(s), or the namelist date. Can you attach the following? namelist.wps ungrib.lo...

Re: Create perturbed initial conditions

Hi, If you're wanting to perturb the initial conditions, you may be able to use NCL to do so. Take a look at this presentation , and specifically starting with slide 40. If you have any NCL-specific questions, there is a separate NCL section of this forum and we have a specialist who answers those q...

Hi,
Take a look at this FAQ that discusses how we suggest using the invariant data. Let me know if that makes a difference. If not, please attach one of each of type of input data files, along with your namelist.wps file. Thanks!

Re: Error compiling WRF-4.3

Hi Yvonne,
When you recompiled the code, did you clean the code first? If not, issue

export J="-j 1"
./clean -a
./configure (choose your options)
./compile em_real >& log.compile

and then send the new configure/compile files. Thanks!

Thank you. I wanted to make sure that was the paper you were referring to, as others have likely done similar things. Re: How is SST computed in the WRF model?

Hi Lyndz,
If you do not have specific SST data available, the model uses the values for skin temperature (SKINTEMP in WPS, TSK in WRF) to derive SST. I believe this takes place in the dyn_em/module_initialize_real.F file.

Hi, I believe that is one of our older benchmarks. If you are interested in seeing the new ones, using V4.2.2, they can be found here . Either way, you should be able to use the command: ncdump -h <file_name>.nc on one of the netcdf output files and it should provide all the details of the dimension...

Hi Jon,
In the configure log that Yvonne sent, this line is near the top:

Code: Select all

setting parallel make -j 8
That indicates that 8 processors were used to compile the code.

After that, please send me you...

Re: NCVGT: : NetCDF: HDF error

Hi,
I'm assuming that you built NetCDF with HDF5? If so, can you check that your HDF5 library hasn't been updated since you built NetCDF? Can you also check the path for the environment variable NETCDF to see if you have that pointing to the right location?
