Re: How to find the top level of the planetary boundary layer in WRF?

Hi, You may look at the height of each model levels by (ph + phb)/9.8, then find the one that is closest to PBLLH. Using that level as the approximate level of PBLH. Does this meet your requirement? For your 2nd question, how to calculate CO2 concentration based on PBLH, I don't have an answer. We a...

Re: How do I add vertical profiles of number concentrations in tslist?

Arthur, Would you please change the code from: grid%ts_qnrain_profile(n,i,k) = grid%moist(ix,k,iy,p_qnr) to grid%ts_qnrain_profile(n,i,k) = grid%scalar(ix,k,iy,p_qnr) (also the same changes for other number concentrations such as QNI, QNS, etc.) Then recompile the codes? Please let me know whether y...

Hi Joice, We don't have the offline version of the BEP-BEM scheme.Below are the two papers for these schemes. Probably you can check with the developer? Salamanca, F., and A. Re: Run real.exe again for restart run?

Hi,
When you run real.exe, if set_update is activated, you will produce wrfbdy and also wrflowinput files. Once set_update = 1, you need to save both wrfbdy and wrflowinput for the restart run.

Re: real.exe': nested run - malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted:

Hi, I looked at your namelist.wps and nameless.input. There is only one issue I am concerned, that you set stand_lon different to ref_lon. It is recommended to set them to be the same. However, I don't think this is the reason that REAL cannot run. Besides, your post indicated that you run with pola...

Re: ideal: error opening wrfinput for writing

Hi Xiang-Yu, I just try to compile the JOINER program and it works for both GNU and INTEL. By the way, I compile in serial mode. I use intel/19.0.5 and netcdf/4.7.4 is installed in my machine. Can you try the above versions of intel and netCDF , and compile the code in serial mode? Please let me kno...

Re: real.exe': nested run - malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted:

Alex, " input_from_file = True, True," indicates that REAL will produce wrfinput_d01 and wrfinpout_d02 for the nested case. " input_from_file = True, False," indicates that REAL will only produce wrfinput_d01. wrfinpout_d02 will be derived from wrfinput_d01 once the model starts running. The former ...

Re: WRF crashes at first time_step for nested run

Hi, Chris, we usually examine wrfinput file to make sure all the variables are physically reasonable. We also pay attention to inconsistency between variables, for example no soil moisture and temperature data at a land point. Such situation rarely occurs but we did see it in certain cases. I guess ...

Re: add a new variable in geogrid

Hi, In this case you may skip the step to write the data in goegrid binary format. However, you need to include this variable in your geo_em data. There are various ways to do so, e.g., NCL, Fortran, Python, etc. Once geo_em file has this variable, you then need to modify METGRID.TBL so that this va...

Hi, I just run a test case using WRFV4.3. I also copy your &fdda section to my namelist.input. The fdda nudging option works just fine and I can see obvious impacts of grid nudging. Attached is the difference of wrfout with and without nudging after 36 hours f integration. I also attach the names;li...

Hi Xun, I don't think there is any update of Q2 diagnosis except the one that fixes the violent fluctuation of Q2 (WRFv3.5.1). It remains mysterious why Q2 could be negative in some specific cases. Re: what else input data for sf_urban_physics

Hi Stella, There is no need to provide extra data when you turn on urban physics module in WRF. But I guess you should pay attention to geo_em files and make sure you have detailed information of urban landuse type. If not many grids are specified to be urban type in your domain, then the results wi...

Re: add a new variable in geogrid

Hi, Heller and cicicsx, The basic procedure to add new variables to WPS/WRF are as follows: (1) write the data in the Geogrid Binary Format. Please see https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/docs/user_guide_v4/v4.3/users_guide_chap3.html#_Writing_Static_Data (2) Modify geogrid/GEOGRID.TBL and metgrid/M...

Udi, I am sorry that we don't have crop data outside US. The crop module itself was developed for US and we didn't test it in other regions of the world. You need to produce the required input data. We do know that people have quite a few issues when using the crop module in the places, but these is...
