Re: spectral nudging (fdda=2) in nested domains

Hi Vinod, I run two cases, one is a single domain case and the other is a nested case with feedback off. I can confirm your concern that the results of D01 are different between the two cases. Theoretically, we expect that results should be identical. However, because of the difference in physics/dy...

Re: WRF crashes soon after execution

Yue,
Would you please rebuild WRF using the option 15 (intel, dmpar)? Please remember to type ./clean -a before you recompile WRF.
Let me know whether the model can run faster.

Re: xland is overwritten in idealized case

I am suspicious that this variable is changed somewhere because it is related to landuse and seaice condition. Please take a look at the code phys/module_physics_init.F, in which you can find the following piece of code: 1941 IF(IS.NE.ISWATER)THEN 1942 XLAND(I,J)=1.0 1943 ELSE 1944 XLAND(I,J)=2.0 19...

Re: "forrtl: severe (154): array index out of bounds" with Noah-MP

Ulysse,
Would you please turn off spectral nudging, then rerun this case? This will reduce the complexity and makes it easier to track the problem.
Also, if you run a single domain case, can this case be done successfully?
What is the version of WRF you are running?

Re: RIBX never exceeds RIC

Hi Lily, (1) I looked at your nameless.input and everything looks fine except that num_land_cat = 21. if you run with NLCD data, I suppose num_land_cat should be 40. (2) This case crashed almost immediately, which often indicates that the input data is wrong. (3) Can you try to run the same case but...

Re: Error in real.exe P array = NaN

No I don't think so. The error message below indicates that something is wrong in the data itself: p array = NaN 4.605170 Checking the code, there should have other error messages because prints out more information: IF ( all_dim .LT. n+1 ) THEN print *,'all_dim = ',all_dim print *,'order = ',n prin...

Re: wind farm parameterization unrealistic results

Maryam, The performance of the wind farm parameterization is heavily dependent on input information, e.g., the thrust coefficients, the power curve, rotor diameter, etc. Are you running with the default input files (wind-turbine-1.tbl and windturbines.txt), or you have created your own input files? ...

Re: Large precipitation bias after ndown

Alessandro, To answer your question about the boundary settings, yes you can change spec_bdy_width and relax_zone when you run down. A larger number of spec_bdy_width allows more smoother transition between the forcing and the model results. I won't expect that will dramatically change the results. ...

Re: FATAL ERROR real.exe : Could not find level above ground

Anna, I don't think anything is wrong in your modified code (module_initialize_real.F). This is also the code that may affect real.exe. The other you modified, module_mp_thmpson.F, only affects wrf.exe and it has no impact on real.exe. Based on the above thinking, I am suspicious that this is an iss...

Re: spec_bdy_width question

HI Stefan,
It turns out that WRF ignores the relax and spec widths, and simply takes the total. It says total-1 = spec width, and the rest is relax. This explains the behavior.

You may try to set sensible heat flux to zero either in the surface scheme you use, or set it to zero in surface driver. I suppose either way howled work.
Please try and keep me updated about the results.
