Dear all

I am trying to simulate WRF-ARW for the Vayu cyclone of the Arabian sea.
I have two questions :
1. is it necessary to compile the model with vortex tracking capability
2. is it possible to extract the track of the cyclone from a conventionally compiled model run, if so how?
Any help will be highly appreciated. Eagerly looking forward to a response.

Hi,
To answer your questions:
1. No, it's not mandatory to use the vortex-following option. This option is available because TCs typically move relatively quickly over a great distance and it prevents you from having to have a very large domain with high-enough resolution to show the TC details. But it's perfectly fine to just use standard WRF.
2. To obtain the track information, you would likely need to use a post-processing tool (e.g., NCL or RIP). I've never used the option, but I know it's possible with the RIP program.
