Dear WRF Community,

I am writing for SST(Sea Surface Temperature) sources. Two problems were met when I am running WPS.

(1) RTG SST downloaded from polar.ncep.noaa.gov starts from 20010211 (rtg_sst_grb_0.5.20010211). What should I do for the date before this date?

(2) NOAA SST downloaded from https://rda.ucar.edu/data/ds277.7 are netcdf files (avhrr-only-v2.20190302.nc). How can I ungrib this SST with a default Vtable designed for grib (Vtable.SST)?

Additional Question: ERA-Interim has its own SST distributed with the data sets. Hence, I do not need to use external SST to blend FILE + SST in metgrid.exe step?

Thanks.

Please see my answers below to your question:

I guess you will have to find other SST data. However, be cautious if your SST are from different sources.

You cannot until data in netCDF format. You need to read the data, write them to intermediate format data that metgrid.exe can read.

Additional Question: ERA-Interim has its own SST distributed with the data sets. Hence, I do not need to use external SST to blend FILE + SST in metgrid.exe step?

Yes you can always use SST in ERA-I instead of trying to get other SST data.
