Project:
Assimilation of crowd-source observations to improve weather forecasts

Prof. Colin Price (Tel-Aviv University) and Prof. Dorita Rostkier-Edelstein (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow in Numerical Weather Prediction and Data Assimilation.

The candidate will work in a cutting-edge project aiming to improve numerical weather predictions by assimilation of observations gathered from crowd smartphones. Various observations available in smartphones will be considered (pressure, temperature, humidity). The outcomes of the project are expected to have significant impact in areas where conventional observations are sparse and lack accurate forecasts of hazardous weather.

Professional skills:
• Ph.D. in meteorological mesoscale modeling.
• Experience in working with WRF model and DART data assimilation system (either from Ph.D. studies or self-learning before starting the position).
• Excellent knowledge of Linux environment and shell scripting (e.g. sh, csh, perl, python)
• Good English skills (both writing and speaking).

Please send your application by e-mail to
