NCAR/MMM Software Engineer II/III position

The NCAR Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) Laboratory is seeking a Software Engineer II/III who will work as part of a team of scientists and software engineers within the Laboratory to contribute to the advancement, maintenance, and support of two open-source, community atmosphere models: the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS).

As part of the MMM Laboratory’s shift in development effort from the WRF model to MPAS, and towards the goal of developing robust, next-generation computing capabilities (including those for GPUs and other computational accelerator hardware) in MPAS, this software engineer will contribute software modifications that ensure the long-term maintainability of the WRF model, and will develop new infrastructure and capabilities in MPAS and its peripheral software, including an automated regression-testing systems and pre- and post-processing software. Additionally, this software engineer will promote the adoption of modern, software-engineering best practices in the MMM Lab. As an integral member of the MMM Laboratory, this position will also assist scientists in the incorporation of new scientific capabilities in MPAS and participate in the MMM Lab’s goal of supporting the use of the WRF model and MPAS to a diverse community of researchers.
