Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences
Assistant Professor – Atmospheric Boundary Layer

The Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at North Carolina State University (NC State) intends to hire a tenure-track faculty member with specialization in the atmospheric boundary layer and/or the near-surface environment.

Desirable expertise includes research via measurements, theory, modeling, or applications in the areas of turbulence, air pollution, surface interactions/exchanges, or other aspects of the near-surface environment that are linked to societal well-being. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2021. Hiring will be at the Assistant Professor level.

The new hire will provide core teaching in NC State’s undergraduate Atmospheric Science program. Course offerings may include undergraduate and graduate classes in micrometeorology as well as other applied or theoretical classes commensurate with the candidate’s interests and expertise. The College of Sciences and MEAS place a high value on excellent instruction and the use of research-validated teaching methods.

Applicants are expected to develop a cutting edge and rigorous research program in MEAS. Opportunities exist for disciplinary and interdisciplinary interactions with a wide range of scientists at NC State. Affiliated with the College of Sciences, MEAS is one of the largest interdisciplinary geoscience departments in the nation. Both the North Carolina State Climate Office and the Raleigh office of the National Weather Service reside on NC State’s campus. MEAS is one of six NC State departments with a presence at the NC State Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST), a coastal and marine science research facility located on Bogue Sound in Morehead City, NC (http://www.cmast.ncsu.edu). MEAS faculty also participate in the recently established Center for Geospatial Analytics (http://geospatial.ncsu.edu). In addition, the Data Science Initiative (DSI), sponsored by the Office of Research and Innovation at NC State, seeks to create a nationally recognized hub of excellence in data science and analytics (https://research.ncsu.edu/dsi). Minimum Experience/Education:
Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Knowledge of practices and procedures that impact student success.
