WRF on ARM64 (aarch64) architecture systems with the NVIDIA HPC SDK Compilers

WRFV4.5 adds support for ARM64. Does anyone have any experience with the platform? Does this induce performance improvements?

Wind observation nudging with obsgrid - what to expect

Hello, I am running two domains over Greece d01 = 13.5km x 13.5 and d02 = 4.5 x 4.5 with GFS input data every 1h. I wanted to test the impact of observation nudging by incorporating wind speed & direction observations captured in wind farms. In total there are about 120 wind turbines in about...

(RESOLVED) NetCDF 3 output when running WRF 4.3

I am the administrator of the machine and I did compare the two configure files. That for some strange reason didn't work. However, I did manage to properly compile WRF so that it creates HDF5 files. I am attaching the successful configuration file, for what its worth.

(RESOLVED) NetCDF 3 output when running WRF 4.3

Hello, I have been running WRF 4.2 in an Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS box without any issues. Recently I tried updating to WRF & WPS 4.3, which compiled successfully and runs without problems. However, it outputs NetCDF 3 (old format) files instead of NetCDF/HDF5. I have tried changing the...

Sudden WRF crash (WARN5: NaN temperature; I,J,L,P=) & SIGSEGV

Indeed, I am using WPS 3.9.1. However, according to weatheraddict, this is still an issue in the latest version of WPS.

Sudden WRF crash (WARN5: NaN temperature; I,J,L,P=) & SIGSEGV

This is the complete output while running wrf.exe Ntasks in X 1 , ntasks in Y 1 Setting blank km_opt entries to domain #1 values. --> The km_opt entry in the namelist.input is now max_domains. Setting blank diff_opt entries to domain #1 values. --> The diff_opt entry in...

Sudden WRF crash (WARN5: NaN temperature; I,J,L,P=) & SIGSEGV

I have a computer running WRF 3.9.1.1 for about 5 months, doing 4 runs a day using GFS input. The past 3 runs have failed giving the following error: real_em: SUCCESS COMPLETE REAL_EM INIT WARN5: NaN temperature; I,J,L,P= 2 92 1 NaN Program received...

Are U & V wind components grid relative?

Indeed, U & V have to be averaged to the destaggered grid first, I figured out later on. Thank you very much! For anyone interested in a simple way to achieve this, the WRF python package by NCAR does this and a lot more.

Are U & V wind components grid relative?

I know that the U10 & V10 wind components are grid relative and by using this formula http://forum.mmm.ucar.edu/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=179&p=338&hilit=sinalpha, one can convert to earth relative ones. My question though is about the U & V components on the various eta levels. There doesn't...
