Advection and Microphysics QC (Cloud water) Tendencies

Hi all,

I want to output QC Tendencies - Advection, PBL, Microphysics & Cumulus.
I got PBL, Cumulus tendencies from Registry.EM_COMMON as RQCCUTEN (Cumulus) and RQCBLTEN (PBL).

The microphysics tendency is qc_diabatic. But I want the individual tendencies of cold-phase processes, autoconversion, accretion,sedimentation and condensation–evaporation, respectively.
qc_diabatic = qc_cold + qc_auto + qc_accre + qc_sed + qc_cond

How to obtain the individual decomposed tendencies?

Also how to get the advection QC tendency?

There is a similar query here: output advective tendency of cloud water mixing ratio, but couldn't find any response.

Looking forward to any help or guidance.

Thank you

Hi Anie_Lal,

Because of many different type of microphysic schemes, each one included various ice phases and processes, so WRF just save the total tendency of Qc.

To extract explicit terms like cold-phase processes, autoconversion, accretion,sedimentation, etc... You need to modify microphysic modules and some drivers, with additional change into Registry too. For each MP schemes, your modified code will be quite different. You can relate to Table 2 of Bao et al. (2019), which examine explicit processes occuring in MP physics, and some source/sink equations in the cloud microphysical budget in Appendix A of Xu et al. (2021).

About advection QC tendency, I not try yet but you can relate to this thread: Output advection tendency of moisture variables
