Aerosols input data for aerosols-aware Thompson scheme (mp=28)

Hello,

I am currently working on integrating the aerosol-aware Thompson microphysics scheme into my WRF simulations, which requires additional data for water-friendly and ice-friendly aerosols. I have successfully run the WRF model using the example files provided (WRF Model Users Site), but this data is limited to the period from 2001 to 2007. I aim to use aerosol mixing ratios derived from the MERRA-2 dataset, but I understand that the aerosol data must be formatted in a specific way, such as in the 'QNWFA_QNIFA_SIGMA_MONTHLY.dat' format.

I have searched for additional information but haven't found much detail on how to generate this specific data. If anyone has experience creating such data or has already generated it, I would greatly appreciate your insights and any recommendations for best practices in incorporating it into WRF.

Thank you, Ming, for getting back to me so quickly.

I would like to inquire about the process of generating "QNWFA_QNIFA_SIGMA_MONTHLY" data. I am currently considering using the MERRA-2 mixing ratios dataset (National Aeronautics and Space Administration - MERRA-2 inst3_3d_aer_Nv: 3d,3-Hourly,Instantaneous,Model-Level,Assimilation,Aerosol Mixing Ratio 0.625 x 0.5 degree V5.12.4 (M2I3NVAER) at GES DISC), which includes several variables, as shown in the attached image. Could you please confirm whether this dataset is the appropriate source for this purpose? If it is, I would also appreciate guidance on which specific variables should be utilized and the steps required to generate the "QNWFA_QNIFA_SIGMA_MONTHLY" data from them.

Thank you in advance.

The variables included in QNWFA_QNIFA_QNBCA_SIGMA_MONTHLY.dat are ice friendly aerosols, water friendly aerosols, black carbon aerosols, etc.
Sorry that I am not an expert in chemistry, and I don't know how to match them with data in Merra-2.

Would you please post your question to wrf-chem forum? Hope someone there can provide helpful information for you.

Thank you, Ming, I will post it on the WRF-chem forum.
