Big domain, shorter time_step ???

Hi WRF colleagues,

With WRF4.6.1 we are going to move our LAM-EPS at 2.5km to a bigger DOMAIN
from 565x469 to 789x637 horizontal grid points BUT surprisingly we have been force
to reduce the time_step from 12 seconds to 9 seconds in order not to fail.

Last calling subroutines just before it fails with the bigger domain
789x637 when using time_step of 10 or 12 seconds are different in
distinct execution dates:

Does it make any sense that a bigger domain requires a shorter

ToKnow: both domains are centered over Iberian Peninsula and both intercep
in their N/E corner with Alps mountain range which maybe it could
play some role in integrating problems.

This is not an unexpected behavior of model. With larger domain, the grid distortion will become more severe, and time step has to be adjusted (reduced) accordingly. Hope this us helpful for you. Please let us know if you have more questions.
