Enquiry about SST Update in WRF/MPAS

Hello!

I'm currently trying to create an SST file for MPAS.I read two posts:Merge Vtable.GFS and Vtable.SST and RE: Enquiry about SST Update in WRF, and they were very helpful to me. Additionally, I also reviewed this presentation: https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users...dfs/202307/data_utilities_post-processing.pdf, and found several SST data sources. But I still have some questions:

(1)The replies in this post:RE: Enquiry about SST Update in WRF mentioned that datasets like GFS also contain SST fields, but their resolution is too low to be recommended for updating sea surface temperature and sea ice. Instead, external SST data sources are suggested. However, the third dataset mentioned in https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users...dfs/202307/data_utilities_post-processing.pdf, NCEP & NCDC Reconstructed SST, also has a resolution of only 1°–2°, and the FNL dataset has a resolution of 1°×1°. So, why is it still recommended to use external SST data?

(2)If I use FNL data to update sea temperature and sea ice, can this Vtable work smoothly for generating SST: * files?

(3)I'd like to remind the website staff that the "other SST data sets" and "Intermediate files" links on this website (ARW Online Tutorial) are not working.

I would be grateful for any help.

Wish you all the best,
Pan.

Hi Pan,

I suppose the SST issue has been solved (see post here).

To answer your question (2), yes the Vtable works to extract SST and XICE.

For your question (3), we are updating the WRF user website and some old links may not work. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by the update.

Hi,
