Hi, I am interested in running a 3km resolution limited area domain simulation with explicit deep convection and parameterized shallow convection.

I note the namelist options, shcu_physics=1,2 and ishallow = 1. Ideally, I would like to use the KF-CuP for shallow convection-only, but it doesn't appear to be supported. Is it?

Would it be a significant effort to add this functionality to WRF v4.0? Where would be a good place to start? Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Please take a look at the option cu_physics=10, which is the Kain-Fritsch + CuP Cumulus Parameterization.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Dear Ming,
Thank you for your response. My question is whether for a single (say, 3km horizontal resolution) regional climate simulation it is possible to specify explicit convection deep convection and KF-CuP shallow convection?

Sincerely,

No, I don't think so. KF-CuP only works with the KF scheme in WRF. We didn't make KF-CuP a shallow scheme indepenedent of deep convection scheme.
