Generating SST:* Files

Hello!

I am preparing the `sfc_update` file for MPAS with a 120km uniform grid. I have already generated the `init` file, and during its generation, I used the FNL 1°×1° data processed by `ungrib`. The Vtable used in the `ungrib` process was Vtable.GFS. Now, I am wondering if I can also use the same FNL data to generate the SST:* file. If so, how should I modify the Vtable? Which variables should I extract? I will upload my Vtable.GFS as an attachment, and I am not sure how to modify it to generate the Vtable.SST to be suitable for creating intermediate data files to update sea surface temperature and sea ice.

Additionally, I would like to know if the FILE:* and SST:* files can be generated from different datasets. For example, can FILE:* use the FNL dataset, while SST:* uses the ERA5 dataset?

Sincerely,
Pan.

Hi,
You definitely can use the same FNL to generate sfc_update file. Actually you don't need to specifically create SST files . You can simply use FILE:yyyy-mm-dd_hh as input, and run init_atmosphere to create sfc_update file.
For your question of using SST from a different data source, I am not sure whether a corresponding landmask is required. I will double check and get back to you.
