Hello!

I am a new user of WRF and as far as I know mean sea level pressure is not in model's output, so I would like to calculate it and plot it! Note: I am not using NCL for post processing, I am using IRIS python. Do you know any way to calculate the mslp from the model's output?

I highly appreciate any help!!

Thank you,

Nefeli

Hi,
Unfortunately besides our supported post-processors (e.g. NCL) we don't have an exact method for computing this. Since you are using python, perhaps you could try to follow the code used for NCL to compute this. You can find it specifically in the wrf_user_getvar function (https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Functions/WRF_arw/wrf_user_getvar.shtml). I also found this while searching. There is a calculation for MSLP in it too - perhaps it may be useful, as well: http://weather.ou.edu/~criedel/metr2021/plot_wrf.py

Thank you very much for your reply!

I will try your suggestions, hopefully I will get good results!

Kind regards,

Nefeli
