How to modify LANDUSE to add a anthropogenic heat in WRF-UCM?

Hello, I started studying WRF-UCM recently but I have a some questions about pre-processing.

I want to add a Anthropogenic heat in urban sites and see the difference about sea-land breeze.

I found that UCM-model split landuse 1(urban) to 3-types(31,32,33) and add a Anthropogenic heat.
I'm going to modify LU_INDEX 1 to 31 using NCL, read_wrf_nc or Python simply and add AH editing URBPARM.TBL

but this way need to do ./geogrid first, and the output(geo_em*) will be modified.

Traditionally, WRF-UCM starts with modifying geog_data using GIS and population density data -> seperate LU_INDEX in USGS categories -> ./geogrid way.

is it different between first way and traditional way?

It is recommended that you follow the traditional way, which will makes all variables consistent with each other.
However, for a sensitivity test, I believe you can modify wrfinput and change the landuse type. Note that this may also involves changes of other variables related to landuse, for example soil data, vegfrac, etc. This is a relatively easy way but you need to be cautious to keep all variables consistent.
