Landuse modification and affected variables

Hi,

I am trying to change the landuse over the Amazon to run an experiment where all the forests over a region are converted to grass. I have tried changing LU_INDEX and LANDUSEF in the geo_em file, but there are other variables, LAI and GREENFRAC, which seem to be related to the land use category and I guess they should be modified as well. However, it is not clear to me how I should change these variables and I could not find an answer in previous post dealing with a similar question.

Could you please give me some indications on how to modify these variables so that everything is consistent?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

If you run with Noah/NoahMP LSM, LAI and VGEFRAC will be determined based on landuse type and VEGPARM.TBL. In this case you do 't need to worry for LAI and GREENFRAC from WPS. However, if you run with the option rdlai2d = .true., then these two variables will be derived from WPS input and you have to modify the input data to make them consistent with the changes in landuse type, --- you will need to compare landuse type and LAI/GREENFRAC in the original data, figure out patterns that match landuse with LAI/GREENFRAC, and modify data accordingly. This is just my personal idea and officially we have never done this before. Hope this is helpful for you.

Dear Ming,

Thank you for your reply. I am using NoahMP and rdlai2d is not activated, but in the wrfinput and wrflowinp files, LAI and VEGFRA are not modified. I am attaching the namelist I used to run real.
