Dear WRF community,

I am writing for changing Land cover of default static field. The purpose is:

(1) to replace modis_landuse_20class_30s_with_lakes with recent MODIS 8 day MCD12Q1 dataset globally.
(2) to replace modis_landuse_20class_30s_with_lakes with recent MODIS 8 day MCD12Q1 dataset for a small region.

For (1): I am not sure if there is any tool/utility to help generating these separated binary files.
For (2): I am not sure if there is any tool/utility to identify which tiled files to be replaced, and to help generating corresponding binary files.

Any indication is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know of any tools, specifically, that would help with MODIS MCD12Q1 data (perhaps other forum members may have something to offer, here), but slides 6 - 16 of this presentation may help to explain what needs to be done when using a new source of data with the geogrid program: http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/tutorial/201901/duda_wps_advanced.pdf .

Thanks for the slides with binary files organizing information. It seems that one should write a script to cut original files into pieces of binaries and replace corresponding tiles.

Another topic: I have done a test of UCM by using NUDAPT+NLCD staic datasets for Hoston. Would you please look at this problem: http://forum.mmm.ucar.edu/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=5331&p=9891#p9891?

How to convert (1) IGBP MODIS classification (17 categories) to (2) MODIFIED_IGBP_MODIS_NOAH used in WRF (21 categories)? Is there a remapping matrix?

Thanks.
