The Institut de Recherche sur les Phénomènes Hors Equilibre (IRPHE) in Marseille - France invites applications for a PhD position in Urban Meteorology to begin in September 2025 for a duration of 36 months.
The doctoral fellowship is an european Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions COFUND (MSCA)).

The project focuses on the role of sea/land breezes on urban micro-climatology and therefore air quality and urban heat island in a context of strong warming of Mediterranean surface waters (Lion, Provence, Ligure & Corsica areas). The study combines the acquisition of meteorological and pollution data on the city of Marseille to better take into account local effects, and the use of RCM (WRF-CHEM) to project short- and medium-term scenarios.

Qualifications. We are looking for a candidate in possession of a Master degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, or fluid mechanics related disciplines and with good knowledge and a keen interest in computer science!

Eligible applicants for MSCA fellowships are Early Stage researchers complying with the following criteria:​
  • Not to be in possession of a doctorate or register to another doctoral program;​
  • Have less than 4 years of full-time research experience at the call deadline. Research experience is calculated from the time the first diploma obtained allowing to embark on a doctorate;​
  • Candidates cannot have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months during the 36 months preceding the call deadline (April 2025);​
  • Be, at the time of recruitment, in possession of the master’s degree or equivalent diploma which formally allows to embark on a doctorate in France;​
  • Have a minimum level of English proficiency equivalent to B1 (read, write, speak) based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (B1= intermediate/ independent user).​
