Questions about Generating SST* Intermediate Format Files in MPAS-A Tutorial

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying the MPAS model and have been focusing on Section 2.2 of the MPAS tutorial (MPAS Tutorial). I have a couple of questions regarding the generation of SST* intermediate format files to obtain the sfc_update.nc file:

1. Do the SST* files need to include sst, icec, and lsmask simultaneously?
2. What are the common data sources used for generating these files?
3. How can I generate similar SST* files? Should I use ungrib.exe from WPS, or the netcdf-to-intermediate.f script found at this link for NetCDF files?
