Hi,
I am new to WRF, the following are the problems I have encountered, if you can help me find the problem I would be grateful.
I want to use ECMWF seasonal forecast data run WRF, the Vtable i used is Vtable.ECMWF, the namelist wps/input file , rsl.out.0000,rsl.error.0000 and serval met* files are attached. Here is the data i used included:
  • Origin:ECMWF
  • System:5
  • Stream:Multi-model seasonal forecast
  • Area:50.0°N 90.0°E 5.0°N 150.0°E
  • Type:Forecast
  • Level:10 to 70 by 20, 100 to 500 by 100, 700, 850, 925, 1000
  • Number:50
  • Method:1
  • Step:0 to 720 by 12
  • Version:1

i download data bigger than the domain i selected,so i think it's not the lack of data. i don't know how to handle this problem. Could you please help me with this?

Thanks,
feiyan

The errors are clearly attributed to issues in the data you used.
Where did you download ECMWF seasonal forecast data? What variables are included in this data and what is its resolution?

If you are new to WRF, I would suggest that you start from those well tested data like GFS. You can download GFS data from:

Then use Vtable.GFS to ungrib them.

ECMWF provides many products and their Vtables could be different. It is hard for a beginner to start with ECMWF data.

1. I download the data from the ECMWF website, it needs special account to download. but it can be downlaod freely in CDS website(Copernicus Climate Data Store | Copernicus Climate Data Store).
2. I downlaod data in pressure levels and surface.both resolution are 0.25.
In pressure levels, it includes:Geopotential, Specific humidity, Temperature, U component of wind, V component of wind in 10 to 70 by 20, 100 to 500 by 100, 700, 850, 925, 1000.
In surface, there are many variables and i selected:10 metre U wind component, 10 metre V wind component, 2 metre dewpoint temperature, 2 metre temperature, Evaporation, Geopotential, Lake cover, Lake ice total depth, Lake mix-layer temperature, Lake total depth, Land-sea mask, Low cloud cover, Mean sea level pressure, Sea ice area fraction, Sea surface temperature, Snow density, Snow depth, Snowfall, Soil temperature level 1, Soil temperature level 2, Soil temperature level 3, Soil temperature level 4, Total cloud cover, Total column cloud ice water, Total column cloud liquid water, Total column ozone, Total column vertically-integrated water vapour, Total precipitation, Volumetric soil water layer 1, Volumetric soil water layer 2, Volumetric soil water layer 3, Volumetric soil water layer 4.
3. I have tried to use GFS data, it could run successfully.

after look up to the historical posts, i find the user Saszalez solve the problem by adding interp_type = 1, i tried and the error
(target pressure and value = 11.49477 -0.4539203
column of pressure and value = NaN 1.050381
column of pressure and value = 6.907755 -9.265003
-------------- FATAL CALLED ---------------
FATAL CALLED FROM FILE: <stdin> LINE: 6241
troubles, could not find trapping x locations)
is solved. the model can run successfully.

Although the model can run successfully, there still some error message in the rsl.out.0000 when i run ./real.exe like:
i,j= 4 1
grid%landmask= 1.000000
grid%tsk, grid%sst, grid%tmn= 0.0000000E+00 0.0000000E+00 288.3414
error in the grid%tsk

Could you please you tell me the cause of this error?and How can I fix this?

thank you for you reply!

is this error caused by lack of skin temperature?if yes, what can I try to solve this problem? All surface variables can be downloaded are listed below:

feiyan,
This is a land mask issue. It seems that you have some grids of land points but the soil information is missing and these points are treated as ocean points.

Can you look at SST in your ECMWF data, and let me know whether SST has values over land? If not, can you find SKINTEMP in your ECMWF data?

1.i draw landseamask and sst ,and according to the figure, they are not at the same resolution.and there exists SST is not equal to 0 when landseamask=1.

2.I can't find SKINTEMP in my ECMWF data,It is not included in the downloadable variables.

In this case, I have to say that the data you downloaded is problematic. It is not appropriate for driving WRF.

I had expected that SKINTEMP might be consistent with landsea mask and can be used to replace SST.

Can you switch to other data?
