Dear UGA atmospheric sciences undergraduates, alums, and faculty (faculty: tell your grad students):
The Southern Appalachian Weather and Climate Workshop will be held in Asheville, NC on March 21-22, 2025.
The Southern Appalachian Weather and Climate Workshop (SAWC) brings together a diverse group of federal, academic, students, and broadcast media to share research, operations, and communication of weather, water, and climate events. The workshop is interested in a broad range of abstracts concerning weather and climate, and do not necessarily need to be focused on the southern Appalachians.
SAWC is a relatively small (circa 100), low-stress workshop that's good for students to attend. UGA has been involved in the planning and funding for this workshop since its inception. Both UGA undergraduates and graduate students have presented at SAWC. Multiple UGA students have made connections leading to university or NWS jobs, and also graduate research assistantships, at this meeting.
At the 2025 meeting, it is likely that there will be much discussion about Hurricane Helene's impact in the Southern Appalachians.
Abstracts for presentations are due Dec,. 15th. Again, student presentations (undergraduate or graduate) are encouraged. Click here to submit an abstract.
