The meaning of some variables in wrfrst file

I have met some variables in wrfrst files, like DEFOR11 for deformation 11, DEFOR33 for deformation 33, and I'm confused by this description. I would appreciate it if someone tell me what are the 11 and 33 mean. Thank you!

This is an intermediate variable in the calculation of eddy diffusion.
Please see the document here, in which you can find the Equation (4.2) - (4.4). D11 and and D33 used for their calculation. These two variables are denoted by DEFOR11 and DEFOR33 in WRF codes.
