A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available at Georgia Tech until filled.

About Us
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position with Professor Armistead (Ted) Russell’s research group. The Russell group specializes in air quality engineering and is pursuing the study of the air quality and health impacts of wildland fires as one of its main research tracks. Ongoing fire-related research activities include field studies, evaluation and use of satellite information, and air quality modeling including source apportionment and forecasting of fire impacts. Through active collaborations with public health researchers, the group seeks to relate smoke exposures to various health effects.

Location
Atlanta, Georgia - U.S.A.

Job Summary
This position will be funded by the Health Effects Institute for an investigation of the impacts of prescribed and agricultural burns on air quality and human health in the Southeastern US. The work is based on developing smoke exposure fields by estimating fire emissions from available burn data and satellite observations, simulating the contributions of those emissions to particulate matter and ozone levels using an advanced air quality modeling system, and combining the simulation results with observed air quality. Those exposure fields will be used by our collaborators in a large epidemiologic investigation to quantify the health effects due prescribed and agricultural burns. This position will provide the individual an opportunity to engage in many innovative research activities at a time when smoke exposure is a growing concern.
