NEW observations in WRFDA

Dear WRFDA developers,

I need to insert a new observation type for a future satellite mission dedicated to wind (and reflectivity) observations. For winds, instrument will measure a linear combination of U and V wind components (not the component itself). A possible method to assimilate these observations is to retrieve, by another 3DVar, the U,V components of the wind and the assimilating them as radio soundings. This method already gave some positive results, but I would like to insert this kind of observations in WRFDA to be assimilated directly by 3DVar. Is that possible? Is there any starting point (document) to learn how to code this? Considering only 3DVar approach makes the programming easier?

Regards.
Stefano

To add a new observational type to wrfda is possible but requires modifications in several modules. first in obsproc to prepare the data for ingestion then in the wrfvar modules themselves. I have added the aeolus hlos wind product, not as a profile but as single observations. seems to work. Hence it is possible, and no there is no README file how to add a new product. This was for the 4denvar module of wrfda.
