Dear altruists,
I used WRFDA 3DVar to assimilate ocean surface winds (set at 10m height) and ran wrf.exe to generate forecasts. The 10m wind (U10/V10) fields do appear in the wrfout file, and both background and analysis fields are different after assimilation.
However, when I repeat the experiment with different observation error settings for the same observations, the analysis(forecast 00H) U10/V10 fields remain exactly the same. Only pressure-level winds (U, V) respond to the changes. It seems that 10m wind is not sensitive to the obs error settings.
Additionally, in the 00-hour wrfout file, some surface fields like HFX are missing.
Any ideas on what might be causing this? Is there any special configuration needed to make surface wind more responsive in the analysis, or to avoid missing surface fields?
Thanks in advance!
