Hello,

I am wondering if there is a way for me to get the eta_levels (in namelist.input) when the model heights (i.e. vertical grid) are given? From the WRF ARW technical guide it appears that the formula for eta level is (p - p_top) / (p_surface - p_top). However, the only data I have been given are the model heights (e.g. level 1 = 37m; level 2 = 112m; ... level 74 = 33,000m). Is there a way to convert these model heights into eta levels?

Thank you for your help!

Are you talking of some ideal cases? If so, then it makes no sense to get ta levels. This is because in ideal cases, PSFC is usually not available.

Hi,

I want to make sure that it doesn't make sense to set eta_levels in namelist.input for ideal cases (such as em_tropical_cyclone)?

Best,

Wenli
