A Research Associate Position,
Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Utah
The successful candidate will join a well-established research team in atmospheric modeling and data assimilation and work collaboratively with scientists at the University of Utah, NOAA, NASA, and broad community. The specific research project involves numerical simulations and data assimilation for improving 1) hurricane numerical simulations and prediction, or 2) land surface modeling and land-atmosphere coupling.
Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or relevant fields, a strong mathematics and physics background, excellent writing skills, proficiency with atmospheric and/or coupled atmospheric-ocean-land models, familiarity with numerical modeling and advanced data assimilation systems such as WRF, WRFDA, GSI, GFS, and strong programming abilities (familiarity with Linux, FORTRAN, IDL or Matlab, and Python are desirable). Previous research experiences in tropical cyclone, mesoscale convective systems, data assimilation are helpful.
The position can be started immediately. The starting date is negotiable based on mutual interests. The appointment will be initially for one year, renewable dependent on the satisfactory of performance and availability of funding afterward. Salary will be competitive based on experience and qualification. The University of Utah offers competitive benefits.
