Clarification on SNOWNC Unit in WRF (mm vs. mm Water Equivalent)

Dear friends,

I am conducting snowfall simulations using WRF (version 3.9, Morrison double-moment scheme) and urgently need clarification on the unit of the output variable SNOWNC.

According to the WRF documentation, SNOWNC is described as "accumulated total grid scale snow and ice, mm) accumulated grid-scale snow" with units labeled as "mm". However, I am uncertain whether this "mm" refers to actual snow depth or liquid water equivalent (LWE). To resolve this, could you confirm:
Is the unit of SNOWNC (mm) equivalent to liquid water equivalent (i.e., the depth of water produced if the snow were melted)?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Best regards,
Zephy
