How does "vortex following" find the vortex's center?

As the question mentioned, I am now trying to find how the vortex's center is calculated in ATCF of "vortex following". Which domain is it used(the original domain or the moving nest)? Is the center decided by the max sea level pressure or the max vorticity or anything else?
WRFV4.6.1 seems not good enough to simulate a weak vortex, so I need to modify related parameters. Thank you very much.

The vortex center in WRF is diagnosed based on several variables, e.g., mean sea level pressure. maximum wind speed, 500hPa geoptential height, etc. It is calculated in the child domain.
