HRRR surface and pressure data for WRF application

Hi,

I'm considering using HRRR dataset to drive WPS and provide meteorological inputs for WRF: HRRR Download Page. I noticed there are two different variable fields: surface (2D) and pressure (3D). I'm wondering what the differences are between them. And If I'm using it for WRF application, which field is recommended?

Surface (2D) fields are those measured at (or near) the surface. The 3D data are the fields for each vertical pressure level in the atmosphere. See Required Input for Running WRF.
