Initial Condition for MPAS

can GEFS be the initial condition for MPAS?
if it can, can it be use directly to MPAS or should it get through WPS ungrib process before MPAS initialization ?
 
GEFS can be used to initialize MPAS. It must be processed first by ungrib and the data file in intermediate format must be created. This intermeidate format data is recognized by init_atmosphere.
