Is it possible to process ERA5 data using only pl and sfc files?

Hello,
I'm trying to process ERA5 data using exclusively pl and sfc filesso I tried with with era5_to_int. However, and when using the -i option, the system still generates the error:

Error: Could not find file e5.oper.an.ml.128_134_sp.regn320sc.2025090600_2025090605.nc needed for ERA5 variable SP

My question boils down on whether it is possible to process ERA5 files without any ml files. If so, would you recommend using era5_to_int with any modification or any other software?

You can modify the python script to remove those requests realted to ML data. For example, delete the following lines (L330, L524)

int_vars.append(MetVar('PSFC', 'SP', 'e5.oper.an.ml.128_134_sp.regn320sc.{}_{}.nc', begin_6hourly, end_6hourly, Gaussian))

'/glade/campaign/collections/rda/data/d633006/e5.oper.an.ml/',

Then try again.

Note that in this way the output cannot be used to initialize WRF and MPAS.

Hi Ming,
Sorry that I didn't reply earlier. A solution that cannot be used to initialize WRF or MPAS is of very limited use. At the end, I did what I was trying to avoid doing, which is to use mostly pl and sfc files with a handful of ml files. It's far from the elegant solution that I was looking for, but I cannot spend more time on it and a different solution will have to wait.
