Is it possible to use another soil texture database in wps/wrf?

Hello everyone!

I'm interested in run WRF with different soil texture database than the default database. However, I don't know if it is possible. Does anyone know if I can convert an arbitrary soil texture database to the format needed for WPS to read it? Or if there is any other way to use another soil texture database in wps/wrf?

I would appreciate your help. Thank you!

Please take a look at the document here, which provides details how to implement a new/different static inout dataset.
Hope this is helpful. However, note that soil types in WRF are derived from top- and bottom-layer soil types (i.e., 2m- and 10-m depth soil types), which may add extra challenges if you want to implement your own soil datasets.

Dear Ming Chen,

I have a question. I cannot find documentation regarding the depths of soiltop and soilbot. The only reference I have found is in article [1], where they mention depths of 0–30 cm for the top layer and 30–100 cm for the bottom layer. You mentioned that the layers are at 2 m and 10 m depth, so I’m not entirely sure which is correct.

My question is: What are the soil layer depths for WRF versions later than 4.0?
