Regional Climate Modeller, British Antarctic Survey – Cambridge (UK), 24 month PDRA

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.

BAS currently has a vacancy for a Regional Climate Change Modeller. This role is an exciting and dynamic opportunity, with involvement in multiple research projects. The post holder will be responsible for setting up simulations using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF), to then analyse and interpret the subsequent model output using data analysis toolkits such as Python. This work will ultimately advance our understanding of the impacts of climate change on water resources of the Himalayas and the melting of ice in the polar regions.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in atmospheric science or numerate field and experience in using Linux/Unix environments for running models and subsequent data analysis/visualisation. This role will also require a candidate who is able to work collaboratively with other researchers and stake holders.
