Soil Temperature/Moisture Update?

Hello,

Is it possible to update soil temperature and soil moisture, like SST and sea ice, through the surface update file? Would it be as simple as adding variables to a streams file, or would the change be more involved?

One of the complicating factors in trying to update the soil moisture and soil temperature fields in the same way as SST and sea ice is that the soil fields are prognosed by the Noah LSM. I realize it's been quite a while since this topic was posted (I had to do a double-take on the year -- apologies for not following up a long, long time ago!), but if you did end up taking some approach to updating or forcing the soil moisture and soil temperature fields, I'd be glad to hear how you managed.
