Trying to configure WRF-SLUCM to study Nature Base Solution

Dear All,

Greetings! I hope this message finds you well.

I am currently working on setting up the WRF model with the Single-Layer Urban Canopy Model (SLUCM) and would greatly appreciate your guidance on best practices for a successful configuration.
Having reviewed several pieces of literature, I understand that two key parameters in the namelist.input file are:
  • sf_urban_physics = 1
  • num_land_cat = 33
However, I encountered a conflict when running real.exe, as the geogrid file appears to be configured with num_land_cat = 21, which is inconsistent with the namelist.input setting of 33.
I have already set geog_data_path = 'modis_15s_default' and made other necessary adjustments, but the issue persists. Some sources suggest that WRF must be compiled with SLUCM support to properly utilize num_land_cat = 33.
Could you kindly share your expertise or point me to any resources that could help resolve this issue?
Thank you very much for your time and support.

With kind regards,
Julius A. Akinyoola

Hi,
Apologies for the long delay in response while our team tended to time-sensitive obligations. Thank you for your patience.

Can you let me know if you're still experiencing this issue, or if you've found a resolution? Thanks!

I’m still on the process of setting up the necessary datasets for WRF-SLUCM. I have explored almost all the available GEO datasets in the WRF GEOG database. Most of them are based on 21 or 24 land use classes, and I hardly found anyone that offer 33-class land use categorization required for my study.

Specifically, I’m looking for a reliable method or dataset that provides land use data with 33 classes. A step-by-step tutorial or any resources you can recommend would be incredibly helpful.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

With kind regards,
Kola
