[Vacancy]: Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Global to regional scale climate modeling

The School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP) at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct multiscale climate modeling simulations. The Fellow will work directly with Dr. Matei Georgescu, Director of the Urban Climate Research Center (UCRC) and Associate Professor in the School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning, and Dr. Mohamed Moustaoui, core member of the Urban Climate Research Center Leadership Team and Associate Professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.

The successful candidate will conduct numerical modeling simulations with the Model Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) system, a next-generation global model that allows seamless transition from global to user-specified regional scales, and the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) system. The successful candidate will conduct a rigorous assessment of an emerging dynamical downscaling approach - using MPAS - and will determine MPAS-predictive skill relative to traditional dynamical downscaling methods, using WRF. The Fellow will work as a team member of the recently funded Department of Energy Southwest-Urban Corridor Integrated Field Laboratory (SW-IFL) project, and will be focused on improving predictability of urban climate across Arizona’s diverse and heterogeneous urban landscapes.
This is an in-person position, housed on ASU’s Tempe campus. The successful applicant will work from an office located within the UCRC. The full-time, non-tenure-track, benefits-eligible, position is for two years with renewal possible based on availability of funding and excellent performance.
Deadline: Rolling deadline; applications will be reviewed as they are submitted.
Preferred start date: August 1, 2023 (note, start date is flexible)
