The tmn_update option is added to improve long time integration. This option allows the lower boundary condition for the Noah land surface model (LSM) to be updated from the averaged forecast skin temp in the past 150 days (lagday option). When this option is turned off, the climatological deep soil temp is used, which means you have the same lower boundary for the Noah LSM every year.
