Best Track Data as input

Hello NCAR,

I recognize that the input data for the WRF model play a crucial role in climate or wind profile reproduction. I don’t have any observation data for nudging, so instead…Is it possible to use best track data as input if I want to investigate tropical cyclones? As WPS need grib files for pre-processing, is it feasible to create a grib file out of a best track data written in txt file? Though, the variables in the best track data are very few compared to the complex list of variables in an actual grib file.

Hi,
This may be possible with some code modifications, but you will still need to use an input meteorological data source that includes the mandatory 2d and 3d fields. Note that it is not mandatory that you have a nudging component, or any additional data (such as best track data).
