GFS soil temperature

Hi,

I'm running WRF with GFS 0.25-degree data, and I would like to know if soil temperature in the GFS is the average of each layer or is set in the middle of each layer.

I believe it the soil data are at the the middle of each layer, but they are used to represent the situation over the entire layer.
