how to control wrfout files

Dear expert:

I used WRF V3.8.1. I simulated for 3 years with two domains , considering the wrfout files from wrf.exe are too many and the fact that I don't use wrfout_d01 files in my analysis. So I wanna ask what should I do if I just want to output wrfout_d02 files and no wrfout_d01 at all ? Is it ok to change history_interval to more than 3 years ? Thank you .

Hi Yun,
If you would like to prevent wrfout_d01 files from printing out, you can simply set the namelist parameter 'history_interval' to 0 for d01. If you'd like to have the interval to only print out every 3 years, that can also be done; however the files may become too large to output to your running directory and then the run will stop with a memory error.
