Hi,

I am setting up a new simulation now on Cheyenne.

I just noticed there is no data on RDA available for MERRA2 as boundary conditions.

Also, I do not see any Vtable for MERRA2.

Is that possible to set up the simulation with MERRA2 at all?

Thanks!

Please take a look at this website:

You can download MERRA2 data from this website. However, note that this data is in netCDF format, which indicates that you don't need a Vtable. You need to read these data, and produce intermediate format data that can be processed by metered.
NASA probably archive MERRA data in GRIB format. You need to contact people in NASA for details.

Hi,
I have a similar question, i am using MERRA data as WPS input and I use merra2wrf program to process MERRA data. But the output file has 72 model layers. I wonder if metgrid.exe could deal with model layer data.

Lin,
WPS provides a utility to process model level data. Please see the details here:

http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/docs/user_guide_v4/v4.0/users_guide_chap3.html#_WPS_Utility_Programs

where you can find how to run calc_ecmwf_p.exe to process model level data.

Thanks!
I checked the output of merra2wrf and there is 3-d pressure fields, the only thing is the level is named 1,2,3, i ran calc_ecmwf_p.exe and the result (pressure field) is the same as the output from merra2wrf. Do i still need to use the output from calc_ecmwf_p.exe ?
