IFS data run WPS and drives WRF

Dear Sir,

When using IFS data from the European Center with WPS version 4.2 and the latest Vtable.ECMWF to run ungrib.exe, I receive an error stating that variables cannot be read (as shown in the image below). Do I need to use a higher version of WPS or WRF to process IFS data? If so, would version 4.5 or above be sufficient?

I would be most grateful for your response.

Thank you!

You should convert the IFS data using eccodes to the simple grib format before ungrib.

Dear Sir,
I'm using the latest Vtable.ECMWF and followed your method to convert IFS to simple format, and the entire WRF workflow runs successfully. However, I noticed that soil data wasn't being read during metgrid processing, forcing me to set num_metgrid_soil_levels = 0 in namelist.input for the run to complete. Attempting to use the latest METGRID.TBL didn't resolve this issue. Could you please provide some solutions?

I would be most grateful for your response.

WPS4.2 did not support IFS data.
